Grounding When the Paperwork Feels Like Too Much

Free guide·Published June 4, 2026

There is a moment where the forms stop being forms and become a wall. This is for that moment, so you can come back to yourself and put your hands back on the work.

Step away from the table, on purpose

Stand up and walk to another room. Leaving the paperwork mid-pile is not quitting, it is choosing when you return, and that choice is the whole point.

Find five things

Name five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell, one you can taste. It is simple and it works, because naming pulls your attention out of the spiral and into the room.

Shrink the next step

Do not return to the pile. Return to one page of it. If one page is too much, one line. The overwhelm came from seeing all of it at once, so go back to a piece small enough to finish.

Then stop while it still feels okay. Ending on a finished line teaches your body that the table is safe to come back to.
